What You'll Need
8oz jar - 10oz jar
Electric mixer (preferably on a stand,
but handheld works too!)
Combine all cocoa butter, shea butter, and coconut oil (1:2:2 respectively) together in a mixing bowl
Turn on your mixer at the lowest setting, and slowly increase the speed
Mix on high for about 5 minutes or until most of the solid ingredients are mixed together
Reduce the speed of the mixer to slow/medium and slowly pour in your carrier oil at a ratio of 1:2 to the base. The choice of carrier oil is up to you, but some of our favorites are jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, and apricot oil.
Increase the speed of the mixer, and mix for about 10 mins or until you are satisfied with the consistency of the body butter.
Once again, reduce the speed of the mixer to slow/medium and add 10 drops of essential oils. Try experimenting with some great smelling combos like, lavender and mint or grapefruit and eucalyptus! If you are using fragrance oils, start off by adding only a small amount with an eye dropper. Remember, you can always add fragrance to boost the scent, but you cannot take scent away!
Increase the mixture to high one last time for 15-20 minutes. To ensure all solids and liquids are mixed together, stop your mixer and scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl with a clean rubber spatula. Return to mixing if there are chunks of butter.
Finally, you can either spoon or pipe your body butter into the container of your choosing! Secure the cap tightly to reduce external moisture from entering the container. This is an extremely important step; if water enters the product, it will develop mold as there are no preservatives in the product. Store in a dry place for up to 6 months.
